Bailey the dog - I need these questions answered...
As everybody knows I adore my dog and I have also worked with service and working dogs, but I demand facts and everybody should. We live in a world of misinformation and disinformation because people are lazy and accept what “someone” on Facebook say as the truth. MLAs have already been advised by the Speaker about their safety, yet the targeting of a particular minister only adds fuel to that fire. The Bailey case is a perfect example of why facts matter.
1 If Bailey was a “loved family pet”, why was he surrendered for cash in the first place, where is the paperwork, receipts, or owner’s statement?
2 Jon states Bailey “lives permanently in the prison”, on what date did you personally verify his housing and kennel conditions, who confirmed this in writing?
3 Jon insists he has “no trained handler/master”, produce the handler training records or the SOP clause that says a working dog must have a single “master”.
4 Jon claims Bailey is walked by a sex offender, that’s a serious allegation, what date, which rota, which risk assessment, which breached policy, if reported, what’s the case ref?
This has already been answered by the Minister for Justice, however Jon is doubling down and is repeating this misinformation online and on the radio. Here is the answer given,
"Bailey’s welfare is Magilligan’s primary concern and, accordingly, he is not left unsupervised with prisoners at any time.
Prior to Bailey’s arrival, Magilligan identified all prisoners with any offence relating to animals, and they are barred from any contact with him. This risk assessment process is completed on all transfers to Magilligan." https://aims.niassembly.gov.uk/questions/printquestionsummary.aspx?docid=448201
5 Jon cites “heartbroken staff”, were formal complaints lodged through HR, whistleblowing, or the Ombudsman, if yes publish redacted refs, if no this remains hearsay.
6 The Minister published an independent welfare review, Bailey was found alert, well cared for, supervised, with safeguarding in place, which specific finding does Jon dispute and on what evidence?
7 Encouraging a prison-gate protest whips up activists and risks disorder, did he consider the PSNI resource strain or security implications for staff, families and visitors?
8 As MLA for North Antrim why is he prioritising Magilligan, outside his area, when North Antrim has huge challenges with racism and civil unrest, a housing crisis and SEN provision, as Education spokesperson for his party this should be his main focus, so is this about policy or profile?
9 Cara Hunter MLA SDLP whose constituency covers Magilligan Prison has already raised the questions re Bailey, she was satisfied with the answers given by the Minister and Dog professionals, and admitted she got it wrong, so why is Jon running a parallel campaign? Is it to undermine the Justice Minister? Is this really about the UUP eyeing the Justice portfolio?
Extraordinary claims require evidence.
Until Jon can produce documents, dates, logs or complaint refs, the only verifiable record remains the published independent report. Bailey deserves facts, not political theatre.
If I am wrong, I'll say I am, but I won't be taken in by hearsay, we deserve better!
